Straight from West German military surplus stocks, this authentic Bundeswehr Bread Bag (Brotbeutel) is a rugged, versatile field satchel that’s been carried on exercises, marches, and deployments across Cold War-era Germany. Compact and well-constructed, it measures approximately 9″ × 8″ × 3″ — the perfect size for daily carry, motorcycle saddlebag use, or display in any militaria collection.
Each bag may show character marks like handwritten names or unit numbers — authentic traces of its service history.
Condition Guide
- Excellent — Lightly used with minimal wear. Shows signs of long-term storage rather than field use.
- Very Good — Normal use and wear with no apparent deficiencies.
- Good — More pronounced wear; may have snags, repairable tears, fraying, or corrosion on brass hardware.
Belt Strap Style
- Rubberized Nylon Belt Straps — Earlier production; rubberized nylon straps for attaching to a military belt.
- Cotton Web Belt Straps — Later production; cotton web straps for belt attachment. These are more rare!
- Cut or No Belt Straps — Ideal if you plan to use a shoulder strap only.
The Bundeswehr (West German Defense Force) issued these bags as standard field kit from the 1950s through reunification. A genuine piece of Cold War history.
